What is the Yoast SEO plugin?
The Yoast SEO plugin is a tool that can be used as a guide to ensure that you have the proper amount of keywords and copy for a page to rank well on Google and other search engines. All Practice Promotions websites will have on-page SEO completed before the site goes live.
How do I use the Yoast SEO plugin?
If you are adding blog posts or pages to your website, it is important to optimize those pages for search engine results. The Yoast plugin makes this easy. Once you have added the page or blog post, from the admin, you will be able to see an option for “Yoast SEO” beneath the page’s copy. You may need to click on the drop-down arrow to open up the editable fields.
You will first need to add an SEO title. This is what will appear on the search engine results page. The next step is to add a meta-description. A meta=description is a brief paragraph that is intended to give the viewer a quick synopsis of what this page will tell them. Be sure to give a catchy meta-description that inspires the viewer to click on the page to read more.
Lastly, you will need to add a “Focus Keyword”. The focus keyword can be between one and four words that are the focus of the page. For example, if you are adding a blog post about Runner’s Knee, “Runner’s Knee” would be a great focus keyword.
